The Guiding HaHand is a nonprofit 501C3 and our mission is to get young people off the street and into civil participation of our society through education. We offer a variety of school tutoring, test preparation, education, and counseling services for our youth, including conflict resolution programs. Recognition for The Guiding Hand
The Guiding Hand has, over the past 2 years, helped to provide a Thanksgiving feeding at the premiere facility in downtown Newark, New Jersey, known as the Prudential Center. We have also been recognized in many advertisements via newspaper, magazine, and video for our efforts working with young people. Articles can be looked at through Anointed News Journal, April 2010, as well as Positive Community 2007 and Choices Magazine, which is a news release magazine ion the metro New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas. We have also been featured in the West Orange Chronicle, the release of "Men Make A Difference", in the June 19th, 2009 issue. Christmas for Chris was a successful event with co-sponsor The Guiding Hand leading the way at the Shark Tank Ballroom on December 20th 2010.
Afterschool Tutoring
Given that you are selected into our program, we will offer 1 hour of afterschool tutoring per session and sessions run 2 or 3 days a week. We specialize in math and reading because we feel these are the two most effective areas that drive success, and our staff work closely with you to ensure you are advancing.
Preparation for GED, SAT, & ACT
In order to function in our society today, it is important that you have your high school diploma; therefore we offer a GED preparation class. As you take your education seriously, we help to prepare you for community college as well as prep school through SAT and ACT preparation classes, which will allow you to get into college and receive a degree
About Us
The Guiding Hand is committed to building communities; therefore, we involve the whole community, whether it is churches or the local YMCAs. Our goal is to develop partnerships with an equal understanding of helping the young person to become a better participant in our community. Therefore, we have adapted the old adage that it takes a village to raise a child and we believe that it takes a community to help us all grow.
